Some of the previously completed projects
-
Batch Processing of Balls for TATA Bearings, Kharagpur. Batch processing through centre less grinding of bearing balls is being investigated to improve the finishing quality. This involves calculation and optimization of number of balls to be fed, the interval of recharging, optimum grinding time required in each pass and studies on effect of charging angle, all under different operating conditions like plate pressure, disk speed, material properties etc.
-
Cantilever Launching of P3 for R&DE (Engrs), Dighi, Pune . It involves study of dynamics of the vehicle and out-riggers while the launched object straightens up, evaluation of transverse stress on the object, design of stabilizers to accelerate the process and responses on rough terrain during transportation.
-
Powerfactor Panel Design for Steuerung Anlage Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad . The objective is to reduce transmission loss of the supply from powergrids. Powerfactor meters have to correct the voltage current phase to achieve this and must be provided in regular intervals along the transmission path. The project also includes modeling of the electronic components to achieve optimal performance, and also development of a low cost phase measurement equipment.
-
Tractor and Appendages Dynamics for Mahindra and Mahindra (Tractors Div.), Bombay . Dynamics of various tractor and trailer appendages and their effect on the movement and stability of the vehicle are under study. This project aims at improving the load carrying capacity of various appendages, and design of these components to suit various operating and soil conditions.
-
Separation of Cryo-Arm from Launcher Vehicle for MECON Pvt. Ltd. Ranchi . Design and Dynamics of inert gas filled Cryo-Arm. The studies include dynamics of the system mounted on the long rotating boom with rails carrying a retractable plate. The cylinders are connected to the retractable plate on one end and to the supply point of the space vehicle on the other end. Optimal pressure for the cylinders, timing of various controllers, maximum temperatures, stresses and clearance from vehicle are few critical parameters designed through simulation.
Current project underway
Study on Rotor Dynamics of KAVERI Engine for GTRE Bangalore .
Kaveri Engine is a dual speed gas turbine. The rotor is supported through bearings on a shell structure. The low speed spool is made of three parts which are joined with splines. An elaborated bond graph model of this complex rotor was created on SYMBOLS Shakti ™ and simulations were performed to evolve the design features which render stable rotor behavior at the full speeds keeping the unbalance response within safe limits. Dynamic complexities of such type of systems can be incorporated in SYMBOLS Shakti ™ due to integrated, flexible and vast capsule library of the software and powerful modeling language like bond graph. |
